YACHT DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

All yachts built at Lagoon Royal shipyard are made upon classical principles. Only the newest technologies and materials are used to build our yachts. Yachts are built by certified specialists, and the process is supervised by Bureau Veritas.

Laminated oak structure is used to make hull frame. Lamellas are glued together by Epoxy 105 Resin glue manufactured by West System. Futtocks are put together in rib rolls and mounted on the assembling bed. After that, we prepare mahogany boarding laths and put several layers of internal and external boarding. Internal boarding and ribs, and internal and external boarding are glued together by Epoxy 105 Resin glue using West System technology. External and internal boarding are bound together using non-corrosive fastener made in France and certified by Bureau Veritas. Bolt and screw heads are closed up by mahogany plugs on glue. Therefore, here we have a two-layer glued wooden boarding bound to frame and to each other with non-corrosive fastener. After that, Bureau Veritas surveyor performs laboratory testing of boarding samples and issues a test report.

Therefore, thanks to classical, traditional methods of building wooden yachts in combination with newest materials (glues, resins, fastener) and modern technologies (West System) employed by Lagoon Royal shipyard specialists, we receive strong, durable hull. Hull structure is moisture-resistant which rules out swelling or shrinkage of wooden laths or their deformation caused by humidity. It ensures lengthy service life of our vessels which lasts for decades.

But Lagoon Royal shipyard technologies do not end with that.

To attach a faultless esthetical look to the yacht hull, all structural load-bearing elements which fasten the boarding are covered by external decorative layer of mahogany 8 mm thick. Decorative mahogany layer may be made in reddish or brownish tones of your choice. Our specialists will also thoroughly select the texture of each lath which will only emphasize the natural beauty of your wooden yacht.

Upon completion of this phase, yacht hull is being grinded both on inside and outside. The internal surface is then covered with four layers of WEST SYSTEM water-resistant epoxy resin and the antiseptic, which increases operational characteristics of wood. The external surface of hull is covered with nine layers of WEST SYSTEM water-resistant epoxy resin. After intensive grinding the hull is covered with twelve layers of three-component polyurethane lacquer Awlgrip which protects yacht hull from ultraviolet rays and also attaches unique luster and ideal smoothness to wooden surface. As a result, we achieve reliable and completely waterproof insulation. It is resistant to seawater and requires minimal care, which is of no less importance.

The underwater part of the hull (below the waterline) is covered with three layers of glass fabric to ensure additional protection. After priming, it's covered with two layers of non-fouling paint Awe Grip (antifouling). It strengthens the hull, makes it impenetrable to microorganisms, and protects against all forms and types of fouling.

Wood which was technically preserved this way retains all its extraordinary properties, virtually not ageing during many decades.

Yachts built at Lagoon Royal shipyard require minimal care. The boat is easy to wash and needs just a regular waxing. No annual hull lacquering is required. Maintenance costs of modern wooden yachts are not higher than that of glass-plastic ones. This fact is corroborated by the two-year operation of our boats.

Therefore, by combining Kherson's shipbuilding traditions with advanced world technologies in sphere of yacht building, using modern equipment and materials, and creating powerful intellectual, personnel, and production base Lagoon Royal shipbuilding company came up with high-quality, competitive product of extra class.

Wooden yacht building process is hard to call building process per se. More appropriate will be such terms as "creation" or "birth." To be able to convey all nuances of this process, one should use the word "Creation" written with capital C. Create yourself a yacht — it's worth it!
