Classic gentlemen’s boats, or runabouts, have their origins in the first half of the 20th century, when wealthy American and British gentlemen of high society moved from their luxurious cabriolets, which, by the way, bore the same name, in wooden boats to go to the country estate on the other side of the lake or for a walk on the city canals.

Since that time, plastic boats have long become available to the mass public, even in Ukraine, but ranebauts have been preserved as a “mark” belonging to tribal aristocrats.

These boats rarely exceed 10 m in length and shun modern technical solutions: mahogany under a dozen layers of varnish, exclusive analog instruments, a retro steering wheel with the inscription of a famous shipyard and… slightly old-fashioned sofas – such a modern image of runabouts. They, like the paintings of the masters of painting of the 16th-18th centuries, are not made with modern enamel, alkyd or latex paints! And how much are these paintings worth today?

These, designed for connoisseurs of style and antiques of the boat, go through brokers or from auctions for unheard of money, and their owners form elite closed clubs. Classic runabouts are not boats for every day, although their speed and seaworthiness are worthy of deep respect. Being in garages on board superyachts or near the moorings of private estates and golf clubs, they are used with feeling, in order, with arrangement, emphasizing the status of both their own and their owner. As befits things, use its purpose to real aristocrats and persons of royal blood. However, admiring from afar is not the same as being on board. And there is a significant difference in feelings.

If the English are to be believed, there are only three sights that take a gentleman’s breath away: a galloping horse; dancing woman and luxury yacht.

Modern wooden boats and boats are primarily a tribute to the traditions, ecology and aesthetics of the boats of the past. In terms of strength, labor-intensive manufacturing, and practicality, wooden structures are not inferior to high-quality modern composite and metal cases. This is achieved through the use of multi-layer polymer coatings that have certain bio-physical-chemical properties. Wood can be preserved well for decades, so with proper regular care, lacquered wooden boats retain their excellent appearance for a long time. drive with propeller shafts, less often with IPS corner columns or a propulsive engine. The last two drives are usually in harmony with very powerful stationary motors, since high speed is an integral feature of a wooden gentleman’s boat. Behind the simplicity lies the open challenge of rivalry, the indomitable character, the freedom of a wild beast and the refinement of manners of a beautiful lady of high society!

These boats are not for everyone! For those who like to wear shorts, “tracksuits” and Vietnamese pants, they will not be suitable for the status of the development of intelligence and education! These boats are capable of subtly hinting, absolutely uncompromisingly emphasizing the highest status of the owner to initiates and connoisseurs! Being an artificial exclusive product, wooden boats are also in demand among collectors, lovers of retro style and are often used challenging even the experienced public as tenders on luxury superyachts, or as individual means of spectacular display on the water. To attract the attention of exceptional people and on special occasions.

Of course, there are such wooden “toys” handmade by masters – the successors of the profession known to the whole world in the ages of the “Master” and those who were taught to create masterpieces from mahogany, khaiya, sipo, oak and teak, several times more than their serial fiberglass stamped distant relatives that mortals can do.
